..first impression: smite

F1816-9CA98-98AB4-0E4A1-6216F

..the smite beta is currently online. smite is a moba - like for instance league of legends (which i love playing so much =)) - but here instead of the view from above your hero one plays from the 3rd person view - like you often do in rpgs. thanks to solariz.de i heard about the beta, got a key and tried it out (well, one game so far).
most important thing first: adapt the settings! i really didn't like it first, moreover, absolutely confusing. setting the resolution on high and it's much better! still i got confused (in the comparison, too for example, lol) - but that could be just me needing time to adapt to the new style ;) but: for example, how do i know what my spells do? you move the character with the "wasd"-keys - well, that one is pretty much known from other games. you cast your spells, attack, etc. with the left mouse key. but that means, i am not able to mouseover the spells to check what they do.. well, i have played only one time now, so i'll find out eventually. aiming is also different, because you don't get to select your target (like sticking to it or clicking on it. you fight kinda in front of you ;)
i started with the champion artemis - i'm usually more comfortable with distant fighting (like with mages, hunters etc.) artemis: the greek goddess of the hunt - all characters are gods from different mythologies - so for example there is sun wunkung, ymir, kali or ra. i kinda like that. as i like the idea of the last "turret" before the base - it's a phoenix rising again from the ashes after some time.
however, first i didn't land in a laning game first, but in the arena - of course with the wrong resolution // settings - and learning about the characters way to play the hard way. i believe, even with high resolution, arena will not be one of my favorites. 5 champions run off, fighting each other with minions right in the middle of it all - to much stuff going on there for my taste. hmm. maybe it's more fun when you're teaming up with freinds and being connected via teamspeak, skype or such. the same will help indeed tremendously with the "towerdefense" (of course this helps so much in lol etc. as well). cuz of the 3rd person view you even see less than in lol or dota - especially you don't see what's behind you.. important as usual: map view! after a little while one gets used to the aiming i meantioned earlier. with artemis (and i'm sure with the other champions as well) i always had a blue arrow in front of me showing in which direction i shoot. moreover, there are (also like with lol etc.) 4 special attacks beside the basic attack. for example artemis can set a trap or - as her ultimate - summon a wild boar who is able stunnen.
what is important for me as well: how does the whole thing look? the menu does not really appeal to me at all at the moment. too edgy and i dunno.. i don't like it. the characters are okay - i 'd like it a little more comic style, however, for example, kali looks pretty nice to me! what else? oh yes, i'd like the characters to show emotions in their faces - i mean you're so close and there''s just nothing. okay, the more details, the better the players pcs have to be. hmm.
well, it's only my very first impression. i will play more, and maybe i can get some friends to try with me. at least other than in lol there is noone flaming at the moment - but i'm sure, we'll see that soon enough.. ;)
now one of you can have this fine beta key. it belongs to the one who uses it first - so have fun with playing!
